Osman Askin Bak has been a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) since 2011, where he served as spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Committee. He was appointed Minister of Youth and Sports in Turkey’s 65th Government.
Mr Bak joined the Turkish delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly upon his election to the Turkish Parliament in 2011, leading the delegation in 2016-2017 and again since returning to the NATO PA in 2018. A member of the Assembly’s Political and Science and Technology Committees, he served successively as Rapporteur of the Sub-Committee on Technology Trends and Security and as Special Rapporteur for the Science and Technology Committee.
He was elected Vice-President of the NATO PA in November 2018.
Mr Bak is a mechanical engineer by training and has authored many articles and scientific publications. He has served as a member of the Executive Boards of the Foreign Economic Relations Board and the Turkey-Iran Business Council, and as a member of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce’s Assembly. He has held leadership positions in various sports clubs and was also the chairman of Turkey’s Anti-Doping Research Commission.
